Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins’ early-season struggles continued Wednesday evening at Kauffman Stadium, as the Kansas City Royals poured it on in a lopsided 13-9 victory that extended Minnesota’s losing streak to three games.
The Twins couldn’t contain a Royals offense that erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, turning what had been a competitive game into a rout. The big frame proved to be the decisive blow, and Minnesota’s pitching staff had no answer.
Starter Joe Ryan took the loss after a rough outing, surrendering five runs on nine hits across just four innings of work. The right-hander was unable to keep Kansas City’s lineup in check, and the bullpen couldn’t stop the bleeding when called upon.
Offensively, Josh Bell provided a bright spot for the Twins with a home run, and Minnesota did manage nine runs — but the pitching woes ultimately overshadowed any offensive production.
With the defeat, Minnesota drops to 1-and-4 on the young season.
The Twins will look to snap the skid Thursday afternoon when right-hander Taj Bradley takes the mound against Kansas City in the series finale at Kauffman Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
