Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Timberwolves had no answers for the Detroit Pistons on Saturday afternoon at Target Center, dropping a lopsided 109-87 decision that was never particularly close.
Minnesota was severely undermanned from the opening tip, playing without All-Star guard Anthony Edwards, along with Ayo Dosunmu and Jaden McDaniels — all sidelined with injuries. The absences left a visible void, and Detroit wasted no time taking advantage.
The Pistons bolted out to a 33-24 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, building their advantage to as many as 24 points. Detroit shot a scorching 52.4% from the floor and dominated inside, outscoring Minnesota 60-32 in the paint. The Pistons’ bench also outpaced Minnesota’s reserves 52-29, providing a decisive advantage that the short-handed Wolves simply couldn’t overcome.
Tobias Harris led Detroit with 18 points on 70% shooting, while Ronald Holland II added 13 points and Daniss Jenkins also chipped in 13. Center Jalen Duren recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
For Minnesota, Donte DiVincenzo was the lone bright spot, pouring in a team-high 22 points on five three-pointers. Rudy Gobert posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Julius Randle contributed 11 points and 8 boards. The rest of the roster, however, struggled to provide much offensively, as the team shot a dismal 31.8% from the field overall.
With the loss, the Timberwolves fall to 45-29 on the season, holding onto the fifth seed in the Western Conference. They’ll look to bounce back quickly — Minnesota visits the Dallas Mavericks tonight, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 PM CDT.
