Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Wild left Ball Arena with a point in the standings but not the two they were hunting. A spirited third-period comeback fell just short on Monday night as the Colorado Avalanche claimed a 3–2 victory in a four-round shootout.
The Wild trailed entering the final frame, but a pair of clutch goals breathed life into the road side. Kirill Kaprizov, Minnesota’s electrifying top scorer, found the back of the net to get the Wild on the board, and Nico Sturm added another strike to give Minnesota a 2–1 lead. The momentum felt unmistakable — until Colorado answered to knot the score at two and force overtime.
Neither team could break the deadlock through the extra frame, setting the stage for a shootout. Colorado prevailed in four rounds, earning the extra point while Minnesota walked away with a single point for the overtime loss.
The result keeps the Wild firmly positioned in third place in the Central Division with 85 points on the season. While the loss stings, a road point against a playoff-caliber Colorado squad is far from a disaster — particularly with a home game on the horizon.
Up next: Minnesota returns home to host the Utah Mammoth on Tuesday night. The Wild will be looking to bounce back in front of their home crowd and keep pace in a competitive Central Division race.
