Vikings Keep Options Open on McCarthy’s Future

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Vikings aren’t ready to declare JJ McCarthy their quarterback of the future just yet.

Speaking to reporters at the NFL Combine, head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed confidence in McCarthy’s abilities, calling him a franchise quarterback. However, O’Connell acknowledged that the team’s situation has evolved since selecting McCarthy in the draft.

Acting general manager Rob Brzezinski reinforced that uncertainty, telling media members the organization plans to explore all available options at quarterback this offseason.

McCarthy’s 2024 season provided mixed results. The young quarterback threw for 1,632 yards and 11 touchdowns, but struggled with turnovers, throwing 12 interceptions over the course of the year.

With the Vikings keeping their plans under wraps, McCarthy’s status as the team’s starting quarterback remains unclear heading into the offseason. The Combine comments suggest Minnesota may be looking to add competition or veteran support to the position as they navigate their quarterback situation.
