The Perham Education Association has named Cory Solberg, a teacher at Perham High School, as its Teacher of the Year.
PEA President Paul Belka says the award recognizes Solberg’s dedication to students, professional excellence, and the positive impact he makes each day — both inside and outside the classroom.
Solberg has been teaching for 34 years, including 27 years with Perham’s School District 549. He says he is both humbled and honored by the recognition.
Belka praised Solberg’s passion for education, his leadership, and his ability to inspire students. He says Solberg has earned the respect of colleagues, families, and students alike, and creates a supportive environment that serves as a model for educators across the district.
Solberg says his favorite part of teaching is caring about students and staff, and the relationships he has built through both teaching and coaching.
He acknowledges the job isn’t always easy.
“It has not always been an easy journey, but that’s why it’s a journey,” Solberg said. “Every day is different. You have a plan, but it can go in many directions. Kids will always surprise you — and that’s what makes it worthwhile.”
Solberg also says one of the most rewarding parts of his career is reconnecting with former students and seeing them succeed after graduation.
