Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Golden Gophers head to Eugene on Tuesday night looking to reverse their fortunes when they take on the Oregon Ducks at Matthew Knight Arena, with tip-off set for 8:30.
Minnesota enters the contest having lost two straight, most recently falling 69-57 to the Washington Huskies on the road Saturday evening. The loss was part of a larger pattern of inconsistency for the Gophers, who sit 11-14 overall and 4-10 in Big Ten play. With the regular season winding down, Minnesota is running out of runway to salvage its resume.
The Gophers’ recent offense has been their biggest obstacle. In their last loss, they managed just 57 points against a Washington squad that entered that contest with a .500 conference record. A bright spot came in early February when Minnesota knocked off Michigan State 76-73 at home, but the team has won just once in five games since.
Oregon offers no easy path back to the win column, but the Ducks are far from invincible themselves. Sitting at 9-16 overall and 2-12 in Big Ten play, Oregon has been one of the conference’s most struggling teams in their first full season as Big Ten members.
With six games remaining in the regular season — including matchups against Rutgers, Michigan, UCLA, and Indiana — the Gophers need to start stacking wins now if they hope to avoid finishing in the conference cellar.
