The Becker County Sheriff’s Office has released an urgent scam alert for residents of Becker County. Scammers are calling families of incarcerated individuals, posing as law enforcement and claiming a loved one can be released early if payment is sent through gift cards or apps like Cash App, Venmo, or Apple Pay.
The Sheriff’s Department stresses, this is a scam. Courts only accept bail by cash, cashier’s check, or a licensed bail bond company.
Residents should never share personal information and should report suspected fraud to law enforcement and their bank immediately.
Questions about bail can be directed to the Becker County Court Administrator.
