Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes’ native son and former Vikings star wide receiver Adam Thielen has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to an impressive 11-year NFL career.

The 35-year-old made the announcement yesterday after splitting the 2025 season between the Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers, where he recorded 19 receptions in 16 games.

Thielen’s career is a testament to perseverance and hometown pride. His journey from undrafted free agent to Pro Bowl receiver made him a fan favorite and an inspiration to players overlooked by the traditional scouting process.

He spent the majority of his professional years with his home-state Vikings, where he developed into one of the franchise’s most productive receivers. His standout performances earned him consecutive Pro Bowl selections in 2017 and 2018, cementing his status as one of the league’s elite pass catchers during that period.

Over his career, Thielen amassed nearly 8,500 receiving yards and hauled in 66 total touchdowns, leaving behind a legacy that Vikings fans won’t soon forget.

The Vikings organization and NFL community are expected to pay tribute to Thielen’s contributions both on and off the field as he transitions to the next chapter of his life.
