Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Wild broke open a tied game with three unanswered third-period goals to defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 at Nationwide Arena on Thursday night.

With the game locked at 2-2 entering the final frame, Joel Eriksson Ek provided the breakthrough, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal. The Wild then sealed the victory with a pair of empty-net tallies from their top offensive weapons, Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy.

Vladimir Tarasenko and Ryan Hartman also found the back of the net for Minnesota, which improved its standing in the Central Division. The Wild currently sit in third place with 47 points.

Minnesota will look to build on the momentum when they return home to host the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night.
