Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Vikings put an emphatic end to their four-game skid on Sunday, shutting out the Washington Commanders 31-0 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The performance showcased both a rejuvenated defense and the continued development of rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

The Vikings’ defense set the tone early and never relented, holding Washington to a meager 206 total yards while forcing three turnovers. The shutout marked Minnesota’s first since [previous shutout], as the unit delivered its most complete performance of the season when the team needed it most.

But the story of the day belonged to McCarthy, who turned in the finest outing of his young NFL career. The rookie signal-caller completed passes for 163 yards and found the end zone three times.

Despite the convincing victory, the Vikings remain in fourth place in the NFC North with a 5-8 record, still facing an uphill battle to reach the postseason. However, the dominant performance on both sides of the ball provides a glimmer of hope as Minnesota enters the final stretch of the regular season.

The Vikings will look to build on this momentum when they travel to face the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday.
