A Detroit Lakes family is receiving an outpouring of community support after losing their home in a devastating fire earlier this week. Erica and Royce Germain, parents of the well-known Germain triplets, saw their house destroyed on December 1st when a fire that began in the garage spread through the home.
Tony Mariotti joined KDLM in studio this week to share details on how the community can help.
Mariotti says support has been pouring in, especially with the holidays approaching. Bell Bank in Detroit Lakes has opened an account for the Germain family, where monetary donations can be made directly. Gift cards are also being accepted at Papa Murphy’s and Becker Pet & Garden.
Becker Pet is additionally helping collect supplies for the family’s dog, Diesel, who survived the fire. The family did lose another pet, Remy. Tiffany Brown has organized a needs list at Becker Pet for anyone who prefers donating specific items.
Local businesses have stepped in as well. Mariotti noted that Lakeshirts made a contribution to help replace clothing, sports gear, and other essentials lost in the fire. He emphasized that Erica and Royce haven’t asked for help, but the community outreach has been overwhelming, and the family is deeply grateful.
An Amazon wish list has been created for those wanting to donate household basics, hygiene items, or Christmas gifts for the kids. A Giftful.com page is also being set up to help replace sporting equipment and personal belongings. Links to these lists are being shared on KDLM’s Facebook page as well as by community members.
Despite losing everything, the Germains have found temporary housing and are focused on rebuilding. Mariotti says the biggest need now is helping the kids get back on their feet.
The community is encouraged to donate at Bell Bank, drop off gift cards at Papa Murphy’s or Becker Pet, or contribute through the online lists as the Germain family begins the long process of recovery.
