Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Gophers snapped their losing streak in dramatic fashion Wednesday night, knocking off No. 19 Indiana 73-64 at Williams Arena in front of an energized home crowd.
Cade Tyson delivered the decisive blow with a go-ahead three-pointer with just under 12 minutes remaining in regulation, giving Minnesota a lead they would never relinquish. The Gophers’ defense clamped down from that point forward, holding the Hoosiers at bay through the final stretch.
Tyson and fellow guard Langston Reynolds led the balanced offensive attack, each pouring in 17 points in the victory. Their combined effort helped Minnesota weather Indiana’s challenges and secure the program’s first win over a ranked opponent this season.
The upset improves Minnesota’s record to 5-4 on the year. The Gophers will travel to West Lafayette next Wednesday to face top-ranked Purdue in a battle with the nation’s No. 1 team.
