Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – J.J. McCarthy made an impressive statement in his return from injury, leading the Minnesota Vikings to a hard-fought 27-24 victory over the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Sunday.

The young quarterback wasted no time making his presence felt, throwing touchdown passes on the Vikings’ first two offensive drives to stake Minnesota to an early lead. McCarthy’s hot start set the tone for what would become a back-and-forth divisional battle.

Not content with just airing it out, McCarthy added a rushing touchdown in the third quarter.

With the game on the line in the closing minutes, McCarthy threw a perfectly placed back-shoulder pass to wide receiver Jalen Nailor for a first down, allowing Minnesota to run out the clock and escape Detroit with the win.

Despite the victory, the Vikings remain in fourth place in the competitive NFC North with a 4-4 record.

The Vikings will look to build on this momentum when they host the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium.
