Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins have filled their managerial vacancy, hiring Derek Shelton to lead the club, according to ESPN.

Shelton brings six years of major league managerial experience to the position after spending the last several seasons at the helm of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He compiled a 306-440 record with Pittsburgh before being dismissed in May of this season.

The hiring represents a reunion of sorts for Shelton and the Twins organization. He previously served as Minnesota’s bench coach during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, giving him familiarity with the organization’s culture and front office leadership.

Shelton takes over for Rocco Baldelli, who was relieved of his duties last month after six seasons managing the Twins.

Further details about the terms of Shelton’s contract have not yet been announced.
