Menahga, MN – A man was killed in rural Menahga after a tree fell on top of him.

The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office says deputies received a 911 call at around 2:45 p.m. Thursday, October 9, reporting that an adult man was injured after a tree fell on him. Deputies arrived on the scene of a rural residence northeast of Menahga and found that CPR had been started on the victim. Live saving measures were continued, but the man was ultimately pronounced deceased.

Deputies say the man worked for a private tree removal service and had climbed up a tree to saw off the top portion. While he was cutting the tree, the base of the tree broke, causing the tree to tip over. The man fell to the ground with the tree falling on top of him.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released the victim’s identity pending notification of family. The incident is under investigation.

The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Menahga Police Department, Menahga First Response Team, North Memorial Ambulance, and Karvonen Funeral Home.
