Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Sunday’s NFC-AFC matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Cincinnati Bengals will feature an intriguing storyline as both teams turn to their backup quarterbacks in what promises to be a pivotal early-season contest.

The Vikings (1-1) will start Carson Wentz under center, replacing JJ McCarthy, who struggled in Minnesota’s disappointing 22-6 road loss to Atlanta last weekend. McCarthy’s performance against the Falcons was marred by three costly turnovers that ultimately sealed the team’s fate. Adding to the quarterback change, McCarthy arrived at the team facility on Monday, dealing with a sore ankle, prompting the coaching staff to make the switch to the veteran Wentz.

The Cincinnati Bengals, also sporting a 1-1 record, will counter with their own backup signal-caller as they look to bounce back from their own early-season inconsistencies.

History favors the home team in this matchup, as the Vikings have maintained a perfect record against Cincinnati when playing at US Bank Stadium.

Both teams enter Sunday’s noon kickoff seeking consistency after mixed results through their first two games. Kick off is at noon.
