A Detroit Lakes man is facing charges after allegedly firing a gun while riding a motorcycle earlier this week.
According to court documents, the Becker County Sheriff’s Office responded to Brandy Lake Road on September 15 following reports that a man on a Harley Davidson motorcycle was discharging a firearm. Minutes later, a Detroit Lakes police officer located the suspect at a Casey’s gas station, where the driver was identified as Todd Ellingson.
When instructed to get off his motorcycle, Ellingson refused. Officers attempted to detain him, and after he resisted, a second officer helped remove him from the bike and place him under arrest.
Authorities say Ellingson was carrying two loaded revolvers and $1,000 in cash. One of the revolvers reportedly contained two unfired rounds and four spent casings. Officers also detected the smell of alcohol. While Ellingson’s blood alcohol concentration tested at 0.07—below the legal limit—police noted signs of impairment.
Investigators later spoke with the individual who reported the incident. The caller told deputies that Ellingson had been driving on the wrong side of the road and nearly struck him before firing several rounds, including shots in front of the caller’s driveway.
Ellingson is charged with intentional discharge of a dangerous weapon and carrying a pistol without a permit.
