DETROIT LAKES. — Spirit, tradition, and plenty of Laker pride will be on full display as Detroit Lakes celebrates Homecoming this week. Both Roosevelt Elementary and Detroit Lakes High School have packed schedules filled with dress-up days, athletic events, and community gatherings.
At Roosevelt Elementary, students will take part in themed days all week long. Monday kicks off with Patterns Day, followed by Wild Socks & PJs on Tuesday, and a Color War on Wednesday where each grade wears a designated color. Thursday brings Jersey/Sports Day, and the week wraps up Friday with Laker Day, encouraging students to wear red and white for a pep rally, parade at 2:15 p.m., and the big football game at 7 p.m. against St. Cloud Tech.
At Detroit Lakes High School, the excitement begins Monday with Camo Day and the annual Homecoming Coronation at 2:35 p.m. in the Lakeshirts Field House. The rest of the week features fun themes including Bikers vs. Surfers on Tuesday, Neon Day on Wednesday, and Dress Your Grade Day on Thursday, with freshmen in plaid, sophomores in dots, juniors in stripes, seniors in animal print, and staff in floral. A school-wide pep fest is set for Thursday morning, followed by girls swimming, boys soccer, and more athletic matchups in the evening.
Friday marks the pinnacle of Homecoming Week with Laker Spirit Day. Events include the Parade of Schools at 8:30 a.m., the Homecoming Parade at 2:15 p.m., and the highly anticipated football game against St. Cloud Tech under the lights at Mollberg Field at 7 p.m. The celebration will conclude with the Homecoming Dance, themed “Denim & Diamonds,” starting at 9 p.m.
With a week full of spirited dress-up days, pep fests, parades, and athletic competitions, Detroit Lakes students and community members alike are ready to celebrate what it means to be a Laker.
