Detroit Lakes will see several temporary street closures on Saturday, Sept. 6, to accommodate the annual Dick Beardsley Races.
According to organizers, road closures will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will reopen in stages as runners complete each portion of the course.
- Red Zone (Full Closure): West Lake Drive from Lake Avenue to the North Shore Drive roundabout, and North Shore Drive to City Park will be closed starting at 7:30 a.m. The west and south sides of the ball field (Washington Avenue and Langford Street) will also be closed until around 11:30 a.m., when the Youth Run and last half marathoners finish. The area will close again in the afternoon for post-race music.
- Yellow Zone: Washington Avenue to Frazee Street, Frazee Street to Summit Avenue, and Summit Avenue down to West Lake Drive will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to about 8:45 a.m. Roads will reopen as runners clear the area.
- Orange Zone: Summit Avenue to Frazee Street, Frazee Street to Washington Avenue, and Washington Avenue to the North Shore Drive roundabout will be closed from 7:30 a.m. until roughly 10 a.m. for the 10K finish loop.
- Purple Zone: West Lake Drive near the beach will remain open to traffic, but runners will be using the parking lane.
- Green Zone: Roads will stay open to vehicles but will be shared with runners participating in the 5K, Half Marathon, and Youth Run.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution and allow extra travel time Saturday morning. Spectators and community members are invited to line the course and cheer on participants throughout the day.
