Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins squandered a late lead and fell to the Chicago White Sox 6-5 in a heartbreaking defeat on Labor Day.

Despite a strong comeback effort that saw them erase an early 3-0 deficit, the Twins couldn’t hold their advantage when it mattered most. The White Sox jumped ahead early behind solo and two-run homers from Colson Montgomery and Chase Meidroth in the second inning.

But Minnesota battled back, with Royce Lewis delivering a crucial homer and Byron Buxton driving in two runs to tie the game 4-4 in the sixth inning.

The Twins briefly took control with a 5-4 lead in the seventh on Brooks Lee’s clutch two-out RBI single, putting them in position for victory. However, their bullpen faltered in the eighth inning when Justin Topa surrendered back-to-back RBI doubles to Brooks Baldwin and Mike Tauchman, allowing Chicago to complete the comeback.

A key defensive play in the sixth inning highlighted the Twins’ missed opportunities, with runners on the corners, Lee made a sharp defensive play at shortstop and threw home to nail Montgomery at the plate, but Minnesota failed to capitalize on that momentum.

Starter Bailey Ober pitched respectably, allowing four runs over five innings, but the loss drops the Twins’ record as they continue to struggle with late-game execution.

The Twins take on the White Sox on Tuesday night with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40. The Twins are 62-75 after losing a weekend series to the Padres.
