Twins Blow Late Lead, Fall to Blue Jays 9-8

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins blew a two-run lead in the eighth inning and fell to the Toronto Blue Jays 9-8 on Wednesday night at Rogers Centre.

Minnesota led 8-6 entering the bottom of the eighth before Toronto mounted a dramatic rally against the Twins’ bullpen.

Michael Tonkin (2-1) walked George Springer before Addison Barger doubled off the wall in right field, scoring two runs for the game-winner. Tonkin was charged with the loss.

The game featured eight home runs between the teams. Byron Buxton led Minnesota with two solo shots, his 26th and 27th of the season, including a leadoff homer to open the game. Brooks Lee (14th) and Luke Keaschall (4th) also went deep for the Twins.

Davis Schneider homered twice for Toronto, his third career multihomer game, while Andrés Giménez also connected.

The Twins extended their club-record home run streak in Toronto to 23 games, dating back to August 26, 2017.

Seranthony Domínguez (3-4) earned the win with two crucial outs, and Jeff Hoffman notched his 29th save. Toronto improved to 58-4 when scoring five or more runs.

The loss drops Minnesota to 60-73 and fourth place in the AL Central.

The Twins host San Diego on Friday with Zebby Matthews (3-4, 5.30 ERA) scheduled to start.
