Detroit Lakes — A new traveling exhibit exploring the transformative power of electricity is set to open at the Becker County Museum this fall. “Electrifying Minnesota” will run from September 6, 2025, through January 2, 2026, offering visitors an in-depth look at how electricity has shaped life in Minnesota for more than a century.
The exhibit takes visitors back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when electricity first became available in homes and businesses. Through period silent films, historic photographs, and an interactive electromagnetic generator, guests can experience both the wonder and the science behind electrical power.
Created by The Bakken Museum in partnership with the Minnesota History Center, the exhibit is part of the Minnesota Historical Society’s Traveling Exhibits Program. Funding for the program is provided by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, established through a statewide vote in 2008.
“We’re excited to host this fascinating exhibit that not only looks at the past but also explores how we’ll generate electricity in the future,” said museum staff.
The Becker County Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission includes access to Electrifying Minnesota.
