Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Vikings have made significant changes to their quarterback room, signing veteran Carson Wentz as their new backup while trading Sam Howell to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Wentz, the former No. 2 overall pick who spent last season backing up Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, returns to a more prominent role behind rookie J.J. McCarthy.

The 32-year-old brings extensive starting experience with a 47-46-1 record and over 22,000 career passing yards.

Meanwhile, the Vikings sent Howell to Philadelphia in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and 2027 seventh-rounder, while also receiving a 2027 sixth-round pick. Howell, who started 18 games for Washington in 2023, will now compete for a backup role behind Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts.
