At approximately 5:30 Wednesday evening, the Becker County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a domestic assault in the 20000 block of Becker County Highway 21. The caller reported that an adult male suspect entered the residence, physically assaulted the victim and stole a firearm. Becker County deputies made contact with the suspect’s vehicle in the city of Detroit Lakes.
The suspect fled from law enforcement in the motor vehicle. Detroit Lakes Police joined in the pursuit, with the Minnesota State Patrol and Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office also assisting.
The pursuit crossed into Otter Tail County where the suspect pulled into the Frazee Rest Stop. Officers made contact with the suspect and an officer involved shooting occurred. Officers rendered aid, the scene was secured, and the suspect was transported to Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes and later transferred to Fargo Essentia where their condition is unknown at this time.
No Officers were injured in the encounter, and the incident is being investigated by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
Officers were wearing body cameras at the time of the incident.
