Multiple reports say two Minnesota lawmakers were shot early this morning.
Democratic House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were shot and killed Saturday morning at their home in Brooklyn Park in what Governor Tim Walz called a “politically motivated assassination.”
State Senator John Hoffman of Champlin and his wife were also shot in their home and suffered multiple gunshot wounds. They both are now out of surgery and are expected to survive.
Brooklyn Park police have ordered a shelter-in-place for residents living in a three-block radius of the Edinburgh Golf Course. They say the suspect is a white male with brown hair and could be misrepresenting himself as a police officer. If residents see anything, they are urged to call 9-1-1 immediately.
