On Monday State 4B Representative Jim Joy gave an update on what he’s working on down at the capital.

Joy mentioned that one of the main bills that is being hotly debated it the health bill.

Joy, “The sticking point is the six-billion-dollar deficit looms, we got some numbers in for MinnesotaCare. What we’re showing is there’s 17,396 illegal immigrants enrolled on MinnesotaCare. And we just want to make sure that the people getting Minnesota care are the people in Minnesota. The people that are here, and you know, elders or everybody and it’s a growing concern, and they’re willing not to negotiate on that so we have some sticking points on that one.”

Taxes and the “out of control spending” are also hot topics in Saint Paul Joy stated, “It’s a 6 billion dollar looming deficit, we have to make sure that we’re being responsible with the money and the out of control spending. When the bankers at the door knocking you have to wake up and say there’s two things are going to do. You got to start cutting or increase taxes, well with an increase in taxes of 10 billion dollars last year. Taxes, that’s not on the table, and right now the tax in the tax bill they like to see an increase in taxes.”

Representative Joy is also concerned about the unfunded mandates that the Walz administration is proposing on passing down to the counties.
