Weather-Related Incidents Keep Local First Responders Busy

A recent stretch of wet, windy, and unstable weather led to a number of weather-related calls for law enforcement and emergency responders across Becker County and the surrounding area.
Between Wednesday, March 27 and Wednesday, April 2, deputies responded to at least eight vehicle incidents likely caused by slippery or wet roads:
• A semi jackknifed near mile marker 38 on U.S. Highway 10 in Audubon.
• Multiple vehicles slid into ditches near Audubon, Frazee, Lake Park, and Detroit Lakes, including one that bounced off a guardrail and another that went into the river near mile marker 55 in Frazee.
• No injuries were reported in any of these crashes.
The weather also contributed to a series of grass fires:
• Park Rapids (March 27), Ponsford, Ogema, Menahga, and 580th Avenue all had grass fire reports. One fire started when a homeowner’s brush fire got out of control near Menahga.
As Severe Weather Awareness Week approaches (April 7–11), officials are reminding residents to keep safety front of mind—especially when roads are slick or when burning outdoors.
