Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach shared updates this week following a recent telephone town hall that drew nearly 14,000 constituents from Minnesota’s 7th District.
During the call, she discussed several key developments:
Social Security Fairness Act
Fischbach praised bipartisan efforts to pass the Social Security Fairness Act, which was signed by President Biden and aims to restore back pay for public service workers who receive “non-covered pensions,” such as educators, police officers, and firefighters.
She noted that the Social Security Administration (SSA) initially said it would take 1,000 work years to process those payments. However, under President Trump’s administration, the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has reportedly helped automate much of the work, and the SSA now says more than 71% of back payments have already been issued.
Pregnancy Care Center Legislation
Fischbach also highlighted her support for the Let Pregnancy Centers Serve Act, a bill introduced with Reps. Chris Smith and Claudia Tenney. The legislation aims to protect crisis pregnancy centers from federal, state, and local discrimination due to their services or pro-life mission.
She voiced concern over abortion-related laws in Minnesota and emphasized the role pregnancy centers play in offering non-abortion alternatives, supplies, and counseling for women in need.
Energy and Rural Economy
During a recent Western Caucus Member Lunch, Fischbach spoke with Energy Secretary Chris Wright about strategies for American energy dominance. She specifically asked about biofuels, saying Minnesota’s producers are uniquely positioned to support a reliable and affordable energy future.
Local Engagement
Fischbach continues to travel throughout greater Minnesota, recently visiting Perham city officials and Rotary Club members, as well as healthcare providers in Browns Valley and Detroit Lakes.
Her staff is also holding monthly office hours across the district, with recent stops in Park Rapids, Pipestone, Gaylord, DL, and more planned.
