A major investment is coming to Henning’s water infrastructure. The small Otter Tail County community has been awarded more than $7 million to upgrade its aging water treatment facility.
The funding package, announced by State Senator Jordan Rasmusson (R-Fergus Falls), includes:
• A $5 million grant from the Water Infrastructure Fund
• A $2.28 million loan through the Drinking Water Revolving Fund
• For a total of $7.29 million
Henning Mayor Jesse Hermanson says the city is grateful for the support.
“Funding of this nature makes these large projects affordable for a community our size and helps keep down the cost of living for our residents,” Hermanson said.
Henning’s water treatment plant has outlived its expected life and has been the source of frequent repairs and occasional water quality issues. With this investment, Henning can now move forward with needed upgrades without passing costs onto residents.
Senator Rasmusson says the improvements will help ensure reliable water service for years to come—not just for Henning, but also for a neighboring community that depends on the system.
“Clean water is a priority for all of us,” said Rasmusson. “This funding will strengthen Henning’s water systems for years to come.”
The funding was approved by the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority, which helps small towns across the state tackle expensive infrastructure challenges.
