The Otter Tail County Board of Commissioners met with residents in Henning this week for a public open house, offering updates on local projects and services—and inviting feedback that helps shape future decisions.
Held on March 31, the event brought together residents and representatives from several county departments, all focused on key issues impacting the region—including infrastructure, broadband, recycling, housing, and the continued search for a missing resident.
Highway Department updates came from Bob Ehlert, who shared upcoming road construction plans for the Henning area and reassured attendees that improvements to local infrastructure remain a top priority.
Sheriff Barry Fitzgibbons addressed the community directly and shared that the Sheriff’s Office continues to actively search for Robert Shaw, the Henning-area man who has been missing since summer 2024. Fitzgibbons said resources remain committed to finding answers.
Updates from the Solid Waste Department included details on single-sort curbside recycling coming to Henning and the progress of a new transfer station project designed to improve efficiency across the county.
Heather Jacobson from the Assessor’s Office spoke with residents about property valuations, offering resources to help homeowners understand the assessment process. She also reminded the public about valuation appeal meetings coming up in April.
For many, the biggest news came from Community Development Director Amy Baldwin, who provided updates on broadband expansion efforts in rural Otter Tail County and shared progress on housing initiatives aimed at addressing affordability and access across the region.
Commission Chair Wayne Johnson, who represents District 2, including the Vergas and DL area, said resident participation makes all the difference:
“These are your plans, and we want to hear from you,” Johnson said. “Community input is essential to long-range planning. Your perspectives shape the future of Otter Tail County.”
