World-renowned artist Thomas Dambo is in Detroit Lakes this week, celebrating the success of his giant recycled troll installation, Alexa’s Elixir, which was recently named one of TIME’s Top 100 Greatest Places in the World for 2025.
Dambo, known for his whimsical wooden trolls made from recycled materials, started his artistic journey 10 years ago by dumpster diving in Copenhagen. Today, his large-scale sculptures span the globe, spreading a message of sustainability and creativity.
“It makes me super proud and really solidifies the true potential of the things we throw away,” Dambo shared on social media.
His Detroit Lakes piece, Alexa’s Elixir, is one of several Dambo Trolls in Minnesota and has drawn thousands of visitors to the region.
Local Tie-In: The Detroit Lakes community has embraced Dambo’s vision of sustainability, making Alexa’s Elixir a must-see destination. With Dambo himself in town, it’s a perfect time for residents and visitors to experience the magic of art created from waste.
