The City of Fergus Falls is taking a step back to reassess its approach to economic development, as the City Council works to define a new vision.
The Greater Fergus Falls organization, which has played a key role in the city’s economic efforts, has paused its activities while city leaders determine the next steps.
City Council Member Scott Rachels, who also serves on the Greater Fergus Falls Board, explained the decision:
“Instead of fighting with some Council members who may want a different direction, we’ve chosen to step back—not dissolve, just pause—and wait to see where the Council is headed.”
At a City Council work session Wednesday, Mayor Anthony Hicks responded to the pause, questioning how Greater Fergus Falls would function without active employees and stating:
“The City has been more than generous in supporting Greater Fergus Falls, but progress has been slow. We need a common vision for development moving forward.”
The City Council will continue discussing economic development priorities at a work session scheduled for March 26.
