Detroit Lakes Students Wrap Up “I Love to Read” Month with Book Club Spotlight

Mar 3, 2025 | 6:40 AM

As February comes to a close, Detroit Lakes Public Schools is wrapping up “I Love to Read” Month with one final book recommendation from Mrs. Evans’ English 9 Book Club Project.
Students Mari Rufer, Addison Zimney, and Ariel Quittschreiber chose to highlight Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds, a novel written in a unique poetry style.
“We like this book because it has an interesting plot and an essay-flowing pace,” the students shared. “The poetry style of writing gives it a cool and strong understanding as well as great imagery.”
Throughout the month, DL students have celebrated literacy with book clubs, reading challenges, and author spotlights. Events like these encourage young readers to engage with literature in creative and meaningful ways.
