Otter Tail County Sees Significant Housing Growth in 2024

Feb 25, 2025 | 6:31 AM

Otter Tail County’s Big Build initiative continues to drive housing growth, with over $94.2 million invested in new and rehabilitated homes in 2024. According to county officials, 443 housing units were either built or significantly rehabbed last year, including 358 new homes and 85 rehabbed units.
Launched in 2019 by the Otter Tail County Community Development Agency (CDA), The Big Build has now resulted in nearly 3,000 homes added or improved across the county. However, with more than 700 job openings currently in the area, housing demand remains high.
Commissioner Kurt Mortenson, who also serves on the CDA Board, says the county has made major strides in housing development but still has work to do.
“It’s truly remarkable to see the housing growth Otter Tail County has experienced these past few years. Now, we have more resources to support housing partners making these investments, both financially and otherwise.”
To further support housing development, Otter Tail County offers programs like Down Payment Assistance, Emergency Housing Repair, and Multi-Family New Construction Loans.
