By Trish Johnson Feb 20, 2025 | 6:43 AM

Authorities have identified the victim of Sunday night’s deadly apartment fire in Wadena and are providing emergency assistance to those displaced.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that 68-year-old David Henrichs of Wadena died in the fire. Investigators say no foul play is suspected in his death, but the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office and Wadena Fire Department continue working to determine the cause.
Emergency Response and Shelter Efforts
The fire, which broke out late Sunday at an apartment complex on Bryant Avenue, displaced 12 residents, many of whom lost everything. Due to the life-threatening cold temperatures, Governor Tim Walz authorized the Wadena National Guard Armory to serve as an emergency shelter after a request from Wadena County Sheriff Michael D. Carr.
The American Red Cross and Salvation Army have been assisting at the armory while Wadena County Human Services coordinates long-term housing for affected residents.
In a Tuesday morning emergency meeting, the Wadena County Board of Commissioners officially declared a state of emergency, allowing additional resources to support those impacted.
