A late-night incident northwest of Wahpeton resulted in damage to six vehicles after a semi-trailer lost its load of metal pipes.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office reports that just before 11:45 p.m. on Monday, February 17, a semi traveling southbound on I-29 near mile marker 28 swerved to avoid a deer. The driver lost control, crossing the median, which caused the metal pipes being hauled to dislodge from the trailer. The pipes obstructed both northbound lanes before coming to rest in the east ditch.
Six vehicles sustained damage from the debris; however, no injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.
Assisting agencies included the North Dakota Highway Patrol and the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
