Avian Flu Confirmed at Poultry Farm in Central Minnesota

Feb 14, 2025 | 7:38 AM

A new case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been confirmed at a poultry farm near Fort Ripley, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Veterinary Services Laboratories.
Officials report that the site has been quarantined, and the 120 birds on the farm were “depopulated” to prevent the disease from spreading. This is the latest confirmed case of avian flu in Minnesota, following another recent detection in Wadena County last month.
Minnesota first identified cases of HPAI in March 2022, and outbreaks continue to pose a serious threat to poultry farms across the state. Farmers and backyard flock owners are encouraged to monitor their birds for symptoms and follow biosecurity measures to protect against infection.
More information on avian flu prevention and response efforts is available through the Minnesota Board of Animal Health at www.bah.state.mn.us.
