Laker Girls’ Hockey Ends Season with 6-0 Loss to Thief River Falls

The Laker girls’ hockey team saw their season come to an end with a 6-0 loss to Thief River Falls at the Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Lakers played with an 8th-grade goalie, Paityn Solberg, who was thrust into the starting position after Talyn Anderson was ruled out due to illness. Solberg played well, making 22 saves on 28 shots.
The Lakers fell behind early in the first period when Kali Knutson scored on a rebound just 58 seconds into the game. Later in the period, the Lakers were called for a tripping penalty, and the Prowlers capitalized with a power play goal scored by Kali Knutson, marking her second goal of the night. With 5 seconds left in the first period, Stattelman was called for an interference penalty, which carried over into the second period. The Prowlers outshot the Lakers 14-3 in the first period.
The Lakers were unable to take advantage of a 5-on-3 situation in the second period. The Prowlers successfully killed off three penalties during this period, including one major penalty lasting five minutes. The Prowlers outshot the Lakers in the second period 5-4. The Prowlers scored a shorthanded goal when Ava Seeger found the back of the net with 6:15 left in the second. They added a late goal with Grace Knutson scoring with just 8.2 seconds remaining in the period.
The Prowlers tacked on two more goals in the third period to cruise to victory. The Lakers will graduate three seniors from this year’s team: Addison Lauwagie, Brooklyn Blake, and Kaydence Thorsteinson.
