Final Design Chosen for Street Banners

By Trish Johnson Feb 7, 2025 | 6:43 AM

The Detroit Lakes Arts and Culture Commission has finalized the design for new street banners set to adorn downtown light poles later this year. These banners will replace those installed during the city’s sesquicentennial celebration in 2021. The chosen design features an abstract, stained-glass effect over a vibrant blue gradient background, mirroring the aesthetic of a monolith sign on West Lake Drive near the city park’s sailboat sculpture. This abstract approach aims to enhance durability and reduce fading over time. One side of each banner will display “Detroit Lakes” vertically, while the reverse will alternate between “Welcome” and its Ojibwe equivalent, “Boozhoo.” Installation is planned for later this year.
