Show Your Teeth Some Love: Celebrate Children’s Dental Health Month

By Trish Johnson Feb 4, 2025 | 6:31 AM

It’s Children’s Dental Health Month, and dental professionals across Minnesota are encouraging families to #LoveYourTeeth by building strong oral health habits early. Healthy teeth are essential to overall well-being, serving as a “window” to the rest of the body.
The Minnesota Oral Health Coalition reminds parents that baby teeth play a critical role in a child’s health and development. Here are some key tips for keeping those little smiles healthy:
• Start Early: Your child should visit a dentist by their first birthday or when their first tooth appears.
• Avoid Bottle Mouth: Putting a baby to bed with a bottle can lead to tooth decay from prolonged exposure to sugary liquids.
Affordable dental care is available through Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP), which offers low or no-cost dental insurance for eligible families.
If you’re looking for free dental services, the Mayme Green Health Center in Wahpeton, ND, is offering preventive dental care for children ages 3 to 18 on February 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Call 701-671-2333 to schedule an appointment.
Show your teeth some love this Valentine’s Day and beyond—healthy habits today can lead to a lifetime of happy smiles!
