The Lakers girls’ basketball team was fresh off a win last Friday against St. Cloud but could not secure another victory on Tuesday night when they hosted the Bemidji Lumberjacks. The Lakers fell to the Lumberjacks 67-49, dropping their record to 5-14 for the year. The Lakers had faced the Lumberjacks just 12 days prior to this meeting and struggled to match their rebounding efforts, as Bemidji’s size proved to be overwhelming.
The Lakers played well offensively in the first half, with Karlee Mace scoring 13 points. However, the Lakers cooled off from the field in the late stages of the first half, allowing Bemidji to go on a 6-0 run that gave them a lead at halftime, 36-28. Clara Bieber led the Lumberjacks in scoring at the break, contributing 15 points in the first half.
The Lumberjacks continued their strong performance in the second half, with Bieber finishing the game with 24 points. DL’s Karlee Mace ended the game with 21 points, while 8th grader Sophia Karlgaard also reached double figures, finishing with 11 points.
The Lakers will look to bounce back on Thursday when they travel to Rocori for a crucial section and conference game.
