Two men were arrested near Maplewood State Park on Friday, January 10, following a traffic stop that escalated into a confrontation with Otter Tail County deputies.
According to court documents, the incident began around 4:29 PM when a deputy noticed a vehicle driving without headlights in snowy conditions. A license plate check revealed the owner’s license was revoked. When the deputy attempted to follow the vehicle, it pulled into a residence before returning to the road. A traffic stop was initiated shortly after.
The driver, identified as 35-year-old Alex Streitz of Erhard, refused to exit the vehicle when requested. The passenger, 24-year-old Brennen Griffin of Fergus Falls, also refused to comply. Griffin, who had an active warrant, allegedly put his hands in his pockets and yelled, “Shoot me,” when commanded to show his hands.
Deputies were eventually able to remove Griffin from the vehicle, but not without resistance. A search revealed 12 Lisdexamfetamine pills and 1.3 grams of methamphetamine on his person.
Streitz also refused to exit the vehicle and had to be physically removed. Despite being tased, Streitz resisted placing his hands behind his back but was ultimately subdued.
Both men were transported to the Otter Tail County Detention Facility. Streitz faces charges of Obstruction of Justice, while Griffin is charged with Obstruction of Justice and two counts of 5th Degree Drug Possession.
This incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement during routine stops.
