By Trish Johnson Jan 17, 2025 | 6:04 AM

In the early hours of Wednesday, January 15, 2025, a Becker County deputy and his K9 partner showed perseverance and teamwork during a harrowing pursuit in subzero temperatures. Around 4:11 AM, Deputy Bruce and K9 Durman attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle. When the male driver fled on foot into a wooded area, leaving the passenger behind, officers quickly discovered the man had active felony warrants for Domestic Assault and drug charges.
Despite the -5 degree temperatures, Deputy Bruce and K9 Durman tracked the suspect through woods and a swamp. The search ended when K9 Durman located the man curled into the fetal position behind a tree. However, the man was unresponsive to commands, prompting Deputy Bruce to call for assistance.
When a second deputy arrived, they managed to elicit a faint response from the suspect. Concerned for his welfare, officers called EMS, who transported the man to Essentia-St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes to evaluate him for potential weather-related injuries. After receiving medical clearance, the suspect was transported to the Becker County Jail, where he awaits a court appearance.
This pursuit underscores the dedication of law enforcement in the face of challenging conditions to keep our communities safe.
