Roger Josephson, a Republican from Detroit Lakes, has been appointed by Governor Tim Walz to serve on the Minnesota Compensation Council as a citizen member representing Congressional District 7. His term begins January 20 and concludes April 3.
Josephson replaces Republican Scott Van Binsbergen, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
The Minnesota Compensation Council convenes every odd-numbered year to provide recommendations to the Legislature regarding salaries for judges, constitutional officers, and heads of state and metropolitan agencies. The council is tasked with considering factors such as:
• Compensation in comparable public and private-sector roles.
• The amount needed to attract and retain qualified individuals.
• The state’s ability to pay recommended salaries.
The council, comprising 24 members, must deliver its recommendations to the speaker of the House of Representatives and the president of the Senate by April 1 of each odd-numbered year.
Appointments to the council include:
• Eight non-judges appointed by the chief justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court.
• One member from each congressional district appointed by the governor.
• Additional members appointed by House and Senate leadership.
Appointees must meet specific eligibility criteria and cannot hold roles such as judge, legislator, or lobbyist, nor be a current employee in the judicial, legislative, or executive branch of state government.
Josephson brings experience as a former Ward 2 election judge in Detroit Lakes and a commitment to public service in the region.
