A 91-year-old New York Mills man is recovering after a rollover crash on Highway 10 west of Lake Park on Wednesday, January 15.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Walter Richard Tumberg was driving a 2002 Chevy Silverado westbound just before noon when his vehicle left the roadway in snowy and icy conditions. The truck rolled over in Lake Park Township, causing significant damage.
Tumberg was transported to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities noted that airbags did not deploy, and it’s unclear whether Tumberg was wearing a seatbelt.
Emergency response teams from the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, St. Mary’s EMS, and the Lake Park Police and Fire Departments assisted the State Patrol at the scene.
This incident is a reminder for drivers in the Detroit Lakes area to exercise caution during winter driving conditions. Snowy and icy roads can quickly turn dangerous, and wearing seatbelts can save lives.
