Becker Soil and Water Conservation District Expands Conservation Services with Leadership from Brandon Dahring

By Trish Johnson Jan 16, 2025 | 8:27 AM

Becker County residents have access to expanded conservation programs and services, thanks to Brandon Dahring, a resource technician at the Becker Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD).
Dahring, who grew up in Detroit Lakes and has a strong passion for the outdoors, leads the seeding and no-till drill program for the SWCD. His work includes technical assistance to landowners and overseeing key initiatives like shoreland restoration, tree planting programs, site preparation for plantings, and installing weed-barrier fabric for tree rows.

Conservation Services Overview
• Seeding and No-Till Drill Program: Landowners with smaller acreages (less than 40 acres) can utilize the SWCD’s no-till drill for planting native grasses, pollinator habitats, pasture and hayland mixes, and cover crops. The program prioritizes conservation efforts over wildlife food plots.
• Tree Program: Offers bare-root and potted tree/shrub species for windbreaks and other planting projects. Full-service windbreak establishment includes site prep, planting, and weed-barrier fabric installation.
• Partnership with Agassiz Seed: Becker SWCD serves as a local vendor for seed, providing landowners the option to purchase seed for self-planting or hire the district for planting services.
