Second Weapon Incident Reported at Fosston Elementary School

By Trish Johnson Jan 8, 2025 | 6:02 AM

Fosston Police are investigating the second incident in as many days involving a student bringing a potential weapon to Magelssen Elementary School.

Police Chief Phil Juve reported that on Friday, January 3, a 12-year-old student was found in possession of a pocket knife. The school district promptly notified those involved and is handling the matter internally.

This comes just one day after a more serious incident on Thursday, January 2, when an 11-year-old student was detained for bringing a gun to the same school.

While no injuries have been reported in either case, these incidents raise ongoing concerns about school safety. Parents and community members in Detroit Lakes and surrounding areas should take note, as incidents like these highlight the importance of clear safety protocols and communication between schools and families.

Fosston Police continue to investigate, and we’ll provide updates as more details become available.
