Local youth are invited to a free ice fishing mentorship event on Sunday, Jan. 12, at Long Bridge in Detroit Lakes.
The “Winter Ice Fishing Mentor Adventure” is hosted by Friends of Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge and supported by local organizations, including the DNR, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Scheels, and the Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary Club.
The event will feature three fishing sessions from 1-4 p.m., where kids aged 6-16 can learn ice fishing techniques and take home a free fishing kit. The kits include a fully rigged rod and reel, nontoxic tackle, and other items to enhance the fishing experience.
Parents and siblings are welcome to join the fun. Pre-registration is required to secure one of 60 available slots. Register online at tamaracfriends.org or call 218-847-2641.
