Becker County Postpones New Land Use Plan

By Trish Johnson Dec 20, 2024 | 6:54 AM

Due to concerns about outdated environmental services sections, Becker County has postponed approving its new comprehensive land use plan until December 31.

**During the recent County Board meeting, commissioners debated residential lot sizes and housing needs. **

**Commissioner Barry Nelson advocated maintaining 2.5-acre rural residential lots to preserve the county’s rural character. **

**However, the board approved a rezoning request for smaller one-acre lots, with Nelson dissenting. **

The comprehensive plan will guide Becker County’s future growth and development, identifying suitable agricultural, residential, and commercial land use locations.

The County Board is expected to approve the final Comprehensive Land Use Plan at its meeting on December 31.
