A tragic crash on icy roads in rural Brainerd has claimed the life of 34-year-old Jill Burnham. Burnham was struck by a suspected drunk driver on Saturday afternoon near Gull Lake Dam Road and Poplar Drive. She passed away at the hospital the following day.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, a Ford Bronco lost control on the icy roadway as the driver tried to slow down for a parked pickup truck. Burnham, who was speaking with the pickup driver, was hit in the process.

The Bronco’s driver, a 57-year-old man from Nisswa, is under investigation for driving under the influence. Charges are pending the results of a blood alcohol test.

Burnham’s husband, Sean, is now navigating life without her. A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover medical bills, living expenses, and memorial costs. So far, the fundraiser has collected over $32,000 of its $100,000 goal.

“Jill was the most generous person we knew,” reads the fundraiser, “and we hope to carry on her legacy until we are reunited again.”
